My name is Lauren and I’m a multidisciplinary artist, writer and culture worker in Ontario. In 2021, I was chosen as one of six mentees for the COVE/COVOX program with Inter Arts Matrix to create a performance loosely based on the linguistic concept of cooperative overlapping. To prepare to actually make the project, I did a lot of research and now I know too much and there are too many ideas swirling around in my head. So, instead of journalling periodically and then freaking out when I need to finally write a coherent statement, I’ve decided to write a weekly-ish newsletter to organize my thoughts and get to the core of what this whole thing is about.

In addition to writing about my linguistics research, I’ll also be getting into the project background, sharing images and drafts from the studio, highlighting some of my collaborators, and generally oversharing about myself and the process of making a giant artwork for the very first time.

“But why would anyone give a shit about your project???” says the voice in my head that is tasked with keeping me humble and/or chronically anxious. Well, I don’t know why exactly, but it’s free and if you already kind of sort of like what I make, it could be worth reading.
